Maine Energy Assistance

The state of Maine has an Energy Assistance Program that is offered in conjunction with the federally funded  Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).  This program provides financial assistance to Maine residents who are either home owners, home renters or apartment renters that need financial assistance to heat their homes during the winter.

The financial assistance is given by eleven Community Action Programs.  Freuently, the the funds are paid directly to the oil companies or fuel companies who provide heating oil to residents. provides money to low income homeowners and renters to help pay heating costs. The program was created to help pay for heating costs rather than pay for the entire cost of heating.
