The state of Wisconson offers a fuel assistance program called Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP), which is a part of the US federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The program helps over 100,000 WI citizens afford to stay warm in the winter by providing funds and grants to those in need.
In addition to the standard funding that many other states also provide, WHEAP gives program participants other special programs such as emergency fuel assistance, energy conservation education and counseling, energy budget advice, outreach services, and emergency heating furnace repairs and replacement. These all help Wisconsin residents save money on their heating needs during the winter.
